A Special Visit by Pinecrest Students

A Special Visit by Pinecrest Students

Pinecrest Academy’s 8th grade Challenge Teams, accompanied by their team leaders and Miss Joycelyn Christianson, a consecrated woman, visited Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cancer Home in Atlanta on Saturday, December 3.  After a greeting by one of the Hawthorn Dominican Sisters, the girls visited as a group, from room to room, singing carols and visiting the bedridden patients.  The girls ate a quick sack lunch, and then began work on picture scrapbooks for each patient. One especially tender moment was a visit to the bedside of a young Hispanic woman, who was very ill.  She did not speak English, and had not heard her native tongue since arriving at the home.  Several of the girls spoke to the woman in Spanish, and she opened her eyes in surprise.  She was not able to speak, but her tearful eyes expressed her joy at hearing the music of her native language.  The girls circled her bed and prayed the “Our Father” in Spanish, and then sang Feliz Navidad for this special patient.
